Welcome to Day 2 of the Alaya 21-Day Inflammation Reset

Yesterday we focused on building awareness. Today we start making small, meaningful upgrades.

One of the easiest and most impactful places to begin is with the oils you use every day. Cooking oils show up in far more foods than we realize, and they can either support your body or quietly work against your goals depending on the type and quality.

This is not about perfection or fear. It is about making simple, informed choices that add up over time.

Why Oils Matter for Inflammation

Many common household and restaurant oils are highly processed seed oils such as canola, soybean, corn, sunflower, and cottonseed.

These oils are inexpensive and widely used in packaged foods and restaurants, but they are also more prone to breaking down under heat and processing. When oils become unstable, they can form compounds that are less supportive of overall wellness when consumed regularly and in large amounts.

At the same time, these oils tend to show up in the exact foods many of us are trying to reduce during a reset, such as ultra-processed snacks, takeout meals, and shelf-stable convenience items.

The goal is not to eliminate every exposure. The goal is to reduce your daily load and replace it with more stable, nutrient-supportive fats where you can.

Where Seed Oils Tend to Hide

Even if you are not cooking with them directly, seed oils often appear in:

  • Packaged snacks and chips

  • Store-bought salad dressings and sauces

  • Cooking sprays

  • Restaurant and fast food meals

  • Marinades and frozen meals

  • Crackers, granola bars, and baked goods

This is why label awareness becomes such a powerful tool. Once you start looking, you will notice patterns.

Better-for-You Oil Swaps

Instead of focusing on restriction, we focus on upgrading. These fats are generally less processed, more stable for cooking, and can be part of a supportive, balanced approach.

  1. Avocado Oil
Neutral flavor with a high smoke point, making it ideal for sautéing, roasting, and everyday cooking.

  2. Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Rich in polyphenols and naturally occurring antioxidants. Best for dressings, drizzling, and moderate heat cooking.

  3. Coconut Oil or Ghee
Naturally stable fats that work well for baking or moderate heat applications. They also add a rich, satisfying flavor.

  4. Grass-Fed Butter
A whole-food fat that contains fat-soluble vitamins and can be a nourishing addition when used mindfully.

Your Anti-Inflammatory Oil Shopping List

As you restock, keep this simple list in mind:

  • Avocado oil

  • Extra virgin olive oil

  • Coconut oil

  • Ghee (grass-fed if available)

  • Grass-fed butter

  • Dressings made with olive oil or avocado oil

  • Simple ingredient marinades or sauces

If you enjoy cooking, you can also experiment with making a simple olive oil–based dressing at home. It is one of the easiest ways to control ingredients and support your reset.

What to Expect Over the Next 7 days:

This week is all about small, intentional shifts that lay the groundwork for feeling better from the inside out. You’ll start tuning into your body, learning what supports it—and what might be working against it. From daily habits to simple food upgrades, each day brings one clear action to help balance inflammation and boost how you feel.

By the end of the week, you’ll have:
✔ Made one easy food swap
✔ Started a simple hydration habit

✔ Added a few calming, supportive practices to your routine

Each day builds on the last, so by the end of the week, you’ll have a solid understanding of what your body needs and simple tools to keep the momentum going!

Today’s Action Step:

Today is not about cleaning out your entire pantry. It is about building awareness and making your next choice a better one.

Choose one simple step:

  • Check the label on a dressing, snack, or cooking spray you use often

  • Notice what oils are listed

  • Make a note to choose a different option next time you shop

Small, consistent upgrades like this create a meaningful shift over time without overwhelm.
